Al-Bukhaari (1496) and Muslim (1053) narrated that Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“…whoever is patient Allaah will bestow patience upon him, and no one is ever given anything better and more generous than patience.”
And Muslim (918) narrated that Umm Salamah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said:
I heard the Messenger of Allaah (S) say:
“There is no Muslim who is stricken with a calamity and says what Allaah has enjoined – ‘Verily to Allaah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allaah, reward me for my affliction and compensate me with something better’ – but Allaah will compensate him with something better.”
Jazakallah for the reminder
Let us complete the hadees…….In the above hadees knowledge has been imparted to us giving us clear instruction with the course of action to be taken at the strike of calamity……
The very narrator of this hadees, mother of the believers – Umm Salamah RadhiyAllaahu anha, describes practically the result of following this sunnah.
As mentioned in Nasaai:
She had heard from the Prophet that if any Muslim was in trouble, he should say this prayer: “O Allah keep my reward for this trouble and make a better alternative for me than this.” She said that when Abu Salamah died, she remembered that hadith which he used to tell her and began to say it. When she wanted to say, “O Allah, give me a better replacement,” her heart used to say, “Who could be better than Abu Salamah?” But when she began that prayer the Prophet was the replacement of Abu Salamah.
And as mentioned in Muslim itself:
“Umm Salamah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying, “When a person suffers from a calamity and utters: `Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji`un. Allahumma ujurni fi musibati, wakhluf li khairan minha (We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah! Compensate me in my affliction, recompense my loss and give me something better in exchange for it), then Allah surely compensates him with reward and better substitute.” Umm Salamah (ra) said: When Abu Salamah (ra) died, I repeated the same supplication as the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) had commanded me (to do), so Allah bestowed upon me a better substitute than him (Prophet himself).
SubhanAllaah! Faith manifest……….
