When my heart was hardened, and my courses constrained; I made my hope a stairway, to Your forgiveness. My sin burdened me heavily, but when I measured it by Your forgiveness, Lord, Your forgiveness was the greater.

“Do not lose hope
in the acceptance of an act of yours
wherin you found no awareness of the divine Presence.
Sometimes He accepts an act
the fruit of which you have not perceived right away.”

” A sign of the death of the heart: lack of sadness about beneficial
actions you have missed, and lack of regret about your mistakes.

Do not become so overwhelmed by your wrong action that it stops you
thinking well of Allah. Whoever has gnosis of his Lord, finds that
his wrong action is insignificant beside His generosity.

There is no minor wrong action when you face His justice. There is
no major wrong action when you experience His bounty. No deed has
more hope of being accepted than the one you do and forget about,
thinking it insignificant.”

People who have memorised the Qur’aan should be known by the night when people are sleeping and he is awake,

and by the morning when people are not fasting but he is,

by his sadness when they are happy,

by his crying when they are laughing,

by his silence when they are slandering,

and by his piety and humility when they are arrogant.

He who has memorised the Qur’aan should be tearful, sad, wise, patient and calm.

He should not be rude, inattentive, loud or cruel.

– Ibn Masoud radhiya Allahu 3anhu

It is narrated that al-Hasan al-Basrî رحمة الله عليه once said:

There were once a people before you who regarded the Qur’ân as a message from their lord;

Hence they would contemplate upon it in the night and act upon it in the day…

The Manners of Reciting The Quran and Related Issues

Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian.

Will they not then ponder on the Qur’an? If it had been from other than Allah they would have found therein much incongruity

Will they then not meditate on the Qur’an, or are there locks on the hearts?

Or add (a little) thereto and chant the Qur’an in measure

The Messenger of Allah said: No people gather in a house from Allah’s houses, to recite Allah’s book and study it together except that as-sakeenah (serenity) descends upon them, mercy envelops them, the Angels surround them and Allah mentions them to those that are with Him
[Muslim 2699]

Rasoolallah also said:

The best among you is he who learns the Quran and teaches it.
[Bukhari 5027]

On another occassion He said:

The person who is proficient in the Quran is with the Safarah (messengers and angels), the kiraam (those that are close to Allaah), and the Bararah (those that are obedient to Allah). As for the person who reads the Quran though it is difficult for him and though he stutters, he has two rewards.
[Bukhari 4937 and Muslim 798, and the wording here is from the narration of Muslim]

Ibn Taymiyyah(RH) wrote:
“Remembrance of Allah is to the heart what water is to fish” Remembrance of Allah also drives away shaytan, suppressing him and breaking him; it is pleasing to the Merciful Mighty and Exalted is He, dispels worry and melancholy from heart, adorns it with delight and joy, fills the heart and face with dignity, gentleness and freshness. It instills love for Allah, fear of Him, and relating all meters to him. It also enhances Allah’s remembrance of his servant, for Allah says: “So remember Me – I will remember you”(2:152)

Rewards of women

Tabarani relates in his Mu’jam al-Awsat:

Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:

Salamah, the wetnurse of Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet, peace of and blessings of Allah upon him, said,

“O Messenger of Alah. You give tidings of all the good to the men and you don’t give tidings to the women.” He said, “Did your female companions induce you to [ask] this?” She said, “Yes.”

He said, “Will one of you not be pleased that when she is pregnant from her husband and he is pleased with her that she has a reward like the reward of the one who fasts and prays in the way of Allah? Then when she is in labor, none of the people of the heavens or the earth know what is hidden for her of [pleasures,] soothing to her eyes. And when she delivers, no mouthful of milk flows from her nor a [child’s] suck except that she has a reward with every mouthful and with every suck. And if [her child] keeps her awake during the night, she has a reward similar to the reward of freeing seventy slaves for the sake of Allah.”
