Tired of Winter

My worst habit is I get so tired of winter

I become a torture to those I’m with.

If you are not here, nothing grows.

I lack clarity. My words tangle

and knot up.

How to cure bad water? Send it back to the river.

How to cure bad habits? Send me back to you….

There’s a secret medicine given only to those who hurt so bad

they can’t hope.

The hopers would feel slighted if they knew.

Look as long as you can at the friend you love,

no matter whether that friend is moving away from you

or coming back to you.

~ Rumi

Reality of Lineage

The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said to Mu’adh as he turned towards Madinah “Those people think that the ones most closest to me are the people of the household. It was said to Salman al-Farisi, ‘Give yourself a lineage O Salman!’ He said, ‘I do not know of a father (for me) in Islam, but I am Salman Ibn Islam.’ [Siyar]

And the poet said,

It is enough of an honour for you that you are His slave
And it is enough of a boast for you that He is your Lord

Consult your heart

I came to the Messenger of Allah and he said ‘you have come to ask about righteousness?’ I said ‘yes.’ He said:

Consult your heart. Righteousness is that about which the soul feels tranquil and the heart feels tranquil, and wrongdoing moves to and fro in the breast even though people again and again have given you legal opinion in its favour.

“If your intention in seeking knowledge is between God Most High and yourself and not merely to gain information, then rejoice! The Angels will spread out their wings for you while you walk, and the creatures in the sea will ask God to pardon you.”

[Imam Al’Ghazali in his Bidaya al Hidaya]
