Shahr Bin Hawshab said: I asked Umm Salamah Radhiallaahu Anhaa what was the du’aa that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam used to make the most when he (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) was by her.

She said: The du’aa he (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) used to make the most was: Yaa Muqallibal Quloob Thabbit Qalbee ‘alaa Deenik…..

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ

“The likeness of a righteous friend and an evil friend, is the likeness of a (musk) perfume seller and a blacksmith. As for the perfume seller, he may either bestow something on you, or you may purchase something from him, or you may benefit from his sweet smell. And as for the blacksmith, he may either burn your clothes, or you may be exposed to his awful smell.”

On the authority of Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar bin al-Khattab, radiyallahu ‘anhuma, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, say:

“Islam has been built upon five things – on testifying that there is no god save Allah, and that Muhammad is His Messenger; on performing salah; on giving the zakah; on Hajj to the House; and on fasting during Ramadhan.”

It is narrated on the authority of Amirul Mu’minin, Abu Hafs ‘Umar bin al-Khattab, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, say:

“Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intended. Thus, he whose migration (hijrah) was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger;
but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, his migration is to that for which he migrated.”

It has been related by Al-Miqdaam bin Ma’di Karib that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“If any of you loves his brother then he should inform him”

(Tirmidhi, Hadeeth Hasan Sahih)

Also it was narrated from Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) that a man was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when another man passed by and he said:

O Messenger of Allaah, I love this man.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to him: “Have you told him?”

He said: No.

He said: “Tell him.”

So he caught up with him and said: I love you for the sake of Allaah.

He said: May the one for Whose sake you love me also love you.

Related by Imam Ahmad and Abu Daawood and it is hadeeth sahih and classed as saheeh by al-Nawawi in Riyadh al-Saaliheen (183) and classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood).

In some reports of the hadeeth it says: “Tell him for it will strengthen the love between you.”

Narrated by Ibn Abi’l-Dunya in al-Ikhwaan (69)

Consult your heart

I came to the Messenger of Allah and he said ‘you have come to ask about righteousness?’ I said ‘yes.’ He said:

Consult your heart. Righteousness is that about which the soul feels tranquil and the heart feels tranquil, and wrongdoing moves to and fro in the breast even though people again and again have given you legal opinion in its favour.
